Happy Halloween

One of my best costumes... I'm Marge Simpson! My friend in college is Lucy.

It’s that time of year again… free candy… cool costumes… who wouldn’t love Halloween!   It can get a little stressful sometimes though, trying to figure out what would be the funniest costume… or trying to decide just who you’re going to be right before the sun goes down on Halloween night.

Above are some of my favorite costumes over the years. The first one was taken in the early 90’s when I was in college.  Of course then The Simpsons were very popular.  My friend and I spent 2 hours putting together my “Marge Simpson” costume.  I have to say it was well worth it…. later that night I won $150 in a costume contest.

There’s also a picture of my daughter when she was much younger… and I could dress her in whatever costume I liked that season.  She was the cutest “Poo” I’d ever seen.

This is a picture of my daughter in 2000 dressed as Pooh. (isn't she cute!)

My poor little dog, he turned into a pumpkin

My poor little dog, he turned into a pumpkin

Okay… I’m not a big fan of dressing up animals and turning them into “little people” but I had to indulge my daughter on this one. She couldn’t resist dressing up our dog Alex in this puffy little pumpkin outfit. I’ll give my dog credit… he loves getting attention to the point that he will even endure this kind of humiliation. I know how I would always feel during those school plays when you had to dress up as the tree or the farm animal… when what you really wanted to be is the princess or the king! I have a feeling all my dog wants is to be left alone… especially around Halloween.

What a show! For the first time last week I got a chance to see Wicked! I have to say going into I didn’t really expect much… I had only heard that it was a great show and that it was selling out on Broadway. So when I heard it was coming to Atlanta at the Fox Theater… I knew I had to see what all the fuss was about. I have to say it was charming, entertaining and funny. I took my 10 year old daughter with me… and I wasn’t sure what she might think… since she hasn’t had a chance to watch the full “Wizard of Oz” on DVD. Even she thought it was fabulous! Of course “Wicked” is the story of Glenda the Good Witch and the Widked Witch of the West before and after “The Wizard of Oz.” I highly recommend you check it out while it’s still playing here in Atlanta… after all if you try to see it in New York… good luck… I hear it’s still selling out at $300 a ticket!

Did you join the masses this past weekend and head out to Atlantic Station for the Taste of Atlanta? It’s one of the events I look forward to every year… and each time… I over-do-it. This year the food was fantastic and my daughter loved the Kid’s Avenue. One of my favorites… the lamb lollipops! And I give credit to the vendors for making sure my sweet tooth was more than satisfied.

I also added a picture of Mike and Me… we had a great time working the CBS 46 booth and meeting our viewers. It was wonderful to hear the positive feedback too! I’m always surprised to hear just how many people are up and watching at 5am!

Think Pink

As you’ve probably noticed by now… October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Everywhere you look you see the color pink! It’s amazing how the retail industry has latched on to pink merchandise. The bad part is that it feels like everything is a money-making opportunities for retailers. The good part is that it makes breast cancer a part of the conversation during the month of October. There are so many products out there that either give a percentage of thier profits to breast cancer research.. or all of their profits to a fund for breast cancer research. It’s worth doing a little of your own research to find the best pink products out there. So many of us have had our lives touched by breast cancer that this is a great reminder that women can survive and thrive after breast cancer!
