Recently I headed out to Austell for a Positively Georgia story at Sanders Elementary School. I met an amazing teacher, Marie Khan. Once a month she works with students in the Sanders Pet Club. These kids are amazing… they work hard to make a difference in the lives of homeless pets. So at every meeting half of the club works in the computuer lab… they go to the Homeless Pets Foundation website and choose animals that are up for adoption. They then make posters of the animals and each student posts them in the community (libraries, Publix, parents workplace, etc.). This school year alone they have been able to find forever homes for 6 pets. What Marie Khan and Sanders Elementary are doing for thier students is helping them build a foundation to not only be humane but responsible pet owners… as Marie put it… it’s something they might not learn at home.
