I had a great time this past weekend as a guest speaker for the 4th annual Omega Mentoring Program Ball.
The Omega Mentoring Program is an academic based mentoring program for at-risk youth in grades 8-12. The program is designed to provide social and leadership training and remedial assistance.
Tutors are provided for free to all mentees and consist of volunteer teachers.
The program is for young men and ladies who want to go to college. They have a college tour every year and they have a formal Ball every year.
Mentees… the females are the Queens and the males are the Gents… they must go to the program voluntarily and not forcefully.
Candidates that are inducted into the program are in the program until they complete high school.
The graduates of the program achieve alumni status and will be encouraged to relay to the current mentees their experiences with college and offer advice that will assist the current mentees with their transition from high school graduate to college student.

It was such a pleasure having Ashley Vicos of Sweet Ashley’s join us on Better Mornings Atlanta.
Ashley is a custom cake baker from Atlanta.
She makes huge, complicated cakes for high-end events that serve thousands of people.
And the best part, Ashley just got her own reality show on The Food Network called “Have Cake, Will Travel”. She’s been on “Food Network Challenge” before. She’s also been on TLC’s “Ultimate Cake Off.”
The show follows Ashley and colleagues across the country as they bake huge cakes for big events. In one episode she went to New Orleans and made a huge castle cake for Mardi Gras. In another, she designs a cake for the Harlem Globetrotters. She also designs cakes for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, New York Fashion Week and an anniversary event for the Marine Corp.
Ashley’s cakes are so huge… she couldn’t even bring one into the studio… so instead she brought in an impressive display of some of her work. The amazing part… these works of art are edible!

I would have never imagined I would be cut out for life on the farm. Recently I spent the day with Russell Johnston on his family farm in Neborn, Georgia… which by the way is the deer capital of our state. Russell gave me a quick hands on tour of everything he does there on the farm, from milking, to bottling to determining if the cows are pregnant! Let’s just say the last part will be burned into my memory forever!
It was amazing to spend time getting back to Georgias roots… the farming industry! Make sure you check out the stories in our “Do My Job” segments on Better Mornings Atlanta!
